The purpose of this event was to educate our cohort A students on the importance of internships and present them with different opportunities to obtain one. This event also gave our Cohort B students a chance to share their experiences with internships and advised them on how to transition to a full-time position in the same company. This event was held towards the end of the semester on Monday, April 8th, 2019.
We had a guest speaker; Mr. Bernard Batson, who is also senior personnel for the Flit-Path program, give a presentation on the different student organizations, conferences, and career fairs available to students as well as funding opportunities for them. He talked about different national organizations like NSBE, SHPE, SWE, etc, that have student organization chapters at USF, and why being involved in them is both important and beneficial.
Following this, we had a panel consisting of Cohort B students that have had internship experiences talk about how they were able to attain these opportunities and answer any questions regarding that. They discussed what companies they interned at, where and how they obtained the opportunity, the interview process, the work environment at that company, and gave some tips to the other students looking to do the same.
The five panelists were:
- Ashley Benjamin-Shallow (JP Morgan Chase)
- Bryan Lopez (Home Shopping Network)
- Kaitlyn Evans (CAE USA)
- Sayde King (Northrup Grumman)
- Zachary Wallace (MGT Consulting)
In total, we had 29 students in attendance, and the event proved to be very engaging and interactive.
